Fried, steamed, and boiled—indulge in an oyster-rich lunch at a local hot spot

As soon as you step outside of Akkeshi Station, you will find Ichifuku in front of you. The owner, Ms. Asami Takahata, opened the restaurant inspired by her father, who also ran an eatery. It has become a favorite among many thanks to dishes that showcase local Akkeshi specialties, especially oysters and clams. The signature dish, Fuku-meshi, is a wonderfully indulgent mixed rice bowl lavishly topped with oysters, scallops, clams, whelk, and surf clams. Even more popular is the Ichifuku Set, the restaurant’s flagship item, which pairs Fuku-meshi with deep fried oysters, steamed oysters, and a bowl of clam miso soup. “I wanted people to enjoy this town’s delicious oysters in as many different ways as possible,” says Ms. Takahata. The menu also features a wide variety of other oyster dishes, including ramen, shabu-shabu (hot pot), and dipping noodles. Another nice touch is that Fuku-meshi is available in a small size. Takeout is also available with advance reservations.

The simplicity of the Sake-Steamed Clams stems from a desire for customers to experience the umami of the clams directly. Every last drop of the umami-rich broth is an indulgent treat.

Oysters and clams are sourced directly from local fishermen. Not only is the flavor exceptional, but the plumpness and size of the meat are truly astonishing.
