An ultra-popular, Nemuro-born sushi train serving rare ingredients

Nemuro Hanamaru is so popular that there are daily lines in Sapporo, and it has even expanded to Tokyo. At its main branch in Nemuro, both tourists and locals alike show up the moment it opens. Unlike other locations, the Nemuro store is committed to using local ingredients whenever possible. Depending on the season and the day’s catch, ingredients that are normally frozen may instead be served fresh. For example, Hanasaki crab, which is in season during summer, is prepared fresh with live crabs used for sushi and miso soup, ensuring exceptional freshness. It is available only for a short period, so those who get to taste it are especially lucky. The summer sushi selection pictured, from front to back, includes Hanasaki Crab Gunkan Sushi Rolls, Sardines Generously Topped with Fresh Nemuro-grown Ginger, and Hanasaki Crab Egg Gunkan Sushi Rolls. The mature crab eggs are an especially rare ingredient, available only from around July to September, and prized for their delightful popping texture. Fresh red sea squirt is another item worth trying if you come across it. It is mild in flavor and easy to eat. With many other Nemuro-specific offerings available at reasonable prices, Nemuro Hanamaru is definitely worth a visit.
