Loved in Kushiro for over a century—sharing the spirit of the region through sake brewing

Fukutsukasa is brewed with the philosophy of creating a sake that pairs perfectly with the seafood of the port town of Kushiro. Whether enjoyed with a meal—where it enhances the flavors of the dishes—or savored on its own for its aroma, taste, and smooth finish, the brewery strives to craft flavorful sake. The brewery was founded in 1919 and the name of its flagship brand, Fukutsukasa, represents the wish to embody fuku—the traditional symbol of good fortune, happiness, and prosperity. Fukutsukasa continues to produce sake deeply rooted in Kushiros local community. Hokkaido-grown varieties such as Ginpu and Suisei are used for the sake rice. “Making local sake with local water for local people—thats the ideal, says Mitsuhiro Aoki, the Sales Director. “As a brewery beloved by the citizens of our city, we hope to promote Kushiro as a city with its own sake brewery and local sake.” Through product development inspired by eastern Hokkaido and collaborations with other industries, the brewery continues to revitalize Kushiro.
